About

Sports4Life has been functioning for the past 21 years, mainly to empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in learning sporting and key life skills in the areas of self-knowledge, strength based living and maximising their potential.

What we do?

Our results come from one on one input times and group training sessions at seminars and sports camps.

One of the founding members of the Soweto Canoe Club has been under the influence of Sports4Life since his Primary School days in Paarl. He is now an accomplished business and family man.

Another participant is the most medalled athlete in the history of Gauteng Schools Canoeing and has just been crowned as the Senior and under 18 Kl River Canoe Champion for Gauteng. He is currently the SA schools senior victor ludorum and the Canoe World Marathon Champs bronze medalist.

How we do it

The initial focal centre for Sports4life will be Wemmer Pan in Turffontein, Johannesburg, host to many Rowing Clubs and to Johannesburg Canoe Club.

It is also the only city dam in Africa with its own sprint lanes for rowing and Canoeing.

  1. We teach the “ Balanced Life Program”….an integration of the mental, physical , emotional ,relational and spiritual aspects of human wholeness and health.
  2. Leadership recognition and development is a key focus of ours.
  3. There is a carefully structured swimming development program, which is foundational to all involved in the program.
  4. Each person involved in our programs undergoes a comprehensive personality analysis and personal strengths profiling program to ensure that we can maximally support their ability to maximise their potential.
  5. We focus on canoeing ,sprinting and marathon ,as a key development sport, and include athletics/running ,swimming ,rowing and cycling as other key disciplines.
  6. Our hope is to have a fully equipped and functional “ High Performance Centre “ with a residential component , so that we can host students over weekends and on school and varsity holidays.

One of our young men walked up to me one day when he was 9 yrs old and said that he wanted to learn to canoe . He is now 18 and last year he was crowned the Senior Victor Ludorum of SA Schools canoeing at their National championships and was also the Junior (U18) bronze medallist at the World Canoe Marathon Championships.

As our financial partnership base increases we will embrace a full education Program ,with a special emphasis on the Arts and the Sciences.

A goal is to see every student empowered with a great sense of purpose.
